"Vita" oil on canvas 36x48 in

Paintings by De-Saas
(S.J Wisniewski)
I primarily work in oil paint on canvas. I bought the first tube with oil color when I was 7 years old. It was the price of 20 lollipops but I could not resist not to buy it. Since then the creativity never stopped.
In my recent works I want to show the passing time but also the persistence of human life, as the long history of humanity will continue where we are the successors of and through history.
Work included in 50 artworks of -Klein Blue Collection -

"Vita" New Painting 30x48 in, oil on canvas
Original by Slawek Jan Wisniewski
A painting about life, humanity, and the passing of time.
In the top left, the word "Vita" evokes the style of medieval manuscripts. It is followed by the Latin inscription: "Vita non est vivere sed valere vita est"—translating to "Life is not merely staying alive, but being well." This sentence originates from the Roman poet Marcus Valerius Martialis (AD 86–103). The text is obscured by layers of paint, symbolizing how time passes for us as human beings. Deep beneath these layers, wave-like strokes resemble the classic American Palmer Method of penmanship. /see picture next to text/
In the lower right, a passage in Polish from the poetry of Edward Stachura reads: "Że wszystko jak sen, jak sen / Że wszystko zawodne / To wiem, to wiem" ("That everything is like a dream, like a dream / That everything is unreliable / This I know, this I know").
The small creature in the lower left is inspired by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. It holds a page pierced by its beak, bearing the "Ankh" symbol for "Life" from the Rosetta Stone. Floating above its head, a Bitcoin hangs from the branches.
Throughout the piece, intuitive scribbles are used as an emotional and raw form of expression.

Theme music that I've listened while painting Marathonas was Symphony#3 by Witold Lutoslawski

Just listen to the Symphony while looking at the painting.

Marathonas -Detail
Unreadable scribble displaces any literal reference to landscape. I used it as intuitive and emotional form.
Marathon is a town in Greece and the site of the Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, in which the heavily outnumbered Athenian army defeated the Persians.
According to legend, Filippides was a Greek messenger with mission to go from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of his army against the Persians at the Battle of Marathon (490 BC).
There was a small mound to commemorate the history when I visited the town by lake Marathon long time ago
