Text over painting from Emily Dickinson poetry

"A something in a summer's day

As slow her flambeaux burn away, which solemnizes me."

The idea to paint it came from my Descanso Gardens photography that was with info -"Error photo"

I decided to paint magical, uncanny landscape with added poetry lines to give an extra feeling, to transfer the viewer to the garden.

Marathonas -Detail

Unreadable scribble displaces any literal reference to landscape. I used it as intuitive and emotional form.

Marathon is a town in Greece and the site of the Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, in which the heavily outnumbered Athenian army defeated the Persians.

According to legend, Filippides was a Greek messenger with mission to go from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of his army against the Persians at the Battle of Marathon (490 BC).

There was a small mound to commemorate the history when I visited the town by lake Marathon long time ago
