Hello!

Slawek Jan Wisniewski (Steve De Saas)

Artist's Statement

Art is a major part of all my life and truly I paint everyday as it is my great passion and I keep it on professional level never stopping to work in this field.

I primarily work in oil paint on canvas. I bought the first tube with oil color when I was 7. It was the price of 20 lollipops but I could not resist not to buy it.

I found a lot of joy with using layers of paint. I begin each painting with pencil sketch preserved with fixative on gesso painted stretched canvas and then washed with some acrylic paint which I partially remove with cloth when it is still wet.

Then I start layering with oils. Though I begin with a thorough idea, I am open to any new thoughts at the time of making it. The spontaneous scribbles on my artworks are important part of the whole painting as they are displacing any literal reference to landscape or objects.

I add scribbles mostly while listening to contemporary classical music, as well as alternative rock. I also use poetry lines, from both ancient and modern poems on my paintings that I chose as complementary addition to transfer the feelings onto the canvas, building a deeper connection with the viewer.

Over time my work has expanded from painting surrealism to expressionism as it gives me a wider horizon to show emotions. For some time I did use the Genuine Yves Klein Blue paint because of it's unusual vivid color to paint sky, earth, and ocean all together with no separating lines.

In my recent works I want to show the passing time but also the continuity of human life, as the long history of humanity will continue where we are the successors of and through history.
